Projects

Here’s just a handful of projects that we’ve undertaken over the past year. You’ll see that we don’t just cover the fencing aspects – we’ve got a very capable and creative team, and a whole host of trusted local tradesman that are able to help, all the way from planning to execution.

The Beaver Enclosure

Our local village, Finchingfield, floods occasionally, causing chaos for local homes and businesses. So, in 2018, Spains Hall Estate and the Environment Agency began developing a natural flood management scheme. Instead of ‘hard’ engineering involving diggers and concrete, the plan was built around natural materials and nature-based approaches to reducing flood risk.
When Archie made contact to see if we’d be interested in constructing a bespoke enclosure to house a family of Eurasian Beavers, we jumped at the chance! It was almost a year in the planning, with advice from the Environment Agency, and The Beaver Trust and local widlife trusts to consider, but in September 2022, the installation began! All in all, there was over 5km of beaver proof fencing (over half of which needed extra reinforcements below ground), thirteen river crossings, and nineteen gateways.

We loved being involved with this one, and we even won the AFI ‘Agricultural & Equine Project Of The Year’ award for it – it’s certainly one that we’re proud of.

A Village Affair

Finchingfield is one of the most picturesque villages in Essex, and when the fencing surrounding the village green and pond needed a refresh, the Parish Councillors came to us for a solution.

After much debate, we settled on a chunky knee rail, constructed of the finest quality air dried oak, using traditional mortice and dowel methods.

We think it looks fabulous!

Making a House a Home

When Simone & Michael moved to a beautiful new home near Newmarket, they got in touch to see if we could help transform the outside space into a safe and functional space for their animals. It all began when they first moved in, with a short run of fencing to make sure that the dogs were safe and secure. We then returned on several (rather wet and muddy) occasions to help realise their plans…

  • Design and build of an equine solarium
  • Installation of a creosote treated stud fence, using Tornado Horse Net, to ensure that the dogs and horses were kept safe and secure
  • Resurfacing of the main track for access
  • Clearance of the boundary ditches to help with surface drainage
  • Installation of gates and gateways
  • Post and rail paddock divisions
  • A good sized, secure dog exercise area
  • An area of hardstanding for the horsebox

Garden Revamp

We’ve worked for Michael for some years now, helping him revamp the outside of his fabulous home in Gestingthorpe. This year, the last piece of the revamp puzzle was put in place, with these beautifully crafted bespoke cast gateways – the icing on the cake!
